How does Micro-Needling work?
As the device slides along the skin, it penetrates the upper layers of the skin (epidermis and superficial dermis) to a depth of up to 2.5mm to create tiny needle wounds. The body recognizes these wounds and responds by delivering cells that help produce new collagen and elastin fibers. We then see more youthful skin with a reduction in wrinkles and scars.
What are the benefits of Micro-Needling?
Micro-needling results in a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, creating younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Micro-Needling also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation and on hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin.
What areas of the body can I treat?
Micro-Needling can be used on all parts of the body: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
Micro-needling can be used to treat a variety of different skin conditions, including:
- Fine and deep wrinkles
- Scars caused by acne, previous surgeries and burns
- Stretch marks
- Sagging skin
- Pigmentation from Melasma
How is the procedure done?
A sterile needle-tip containing 12 tiny micro-needles is attached to the Eclipse Micropen™. Before the micro-needling begins, a medical professional applies a numbing cream or local anesthetic to the area of concern. A thin layer of topical gel is then applied to the skin and the device is set to the appropriate setting based on the patient’s unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen is gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
Is the procedure painful?
With the use of topical numbing creams, the sensitivity felt by the patient is minimal.
What does it feel like?
The feeling associated with Micro-Needling is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating needle tip reduces discomfort, while the applied hydrating gel also makes the treatment more tolerable.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure takes 15-60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.
What is the downtime?
The total healing time depends on the Micro-Needling setting used and the number of overlapping passes your skincare professional performs. Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a bright redness to the skin.
On average, patients have some redness for up to 2-4 days. Some patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours. When combined with Platelet Rich Plasma treatment, the results are enhanced and the healing process is sped up.
When will I see results?
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve for up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
How does Micro-Needling for people with darker skin?
This procedure is safe for people of all skin types and doesn’t carry the risk of hyper-pigmentation.
How many treatments will I need?
For most patients, Micro-Needling can be repeated every 4-6 weeks. The stimulation of new collagen responds best with at least 3 treatments. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, it is recommended you receive 6-8 sessions at 4-6 week intervals.
